| Bio: | This journal is a Role Playing Journal associated with the Chaos Cube Community. The character of Captain Jack Harkness does not belong to me, nor does anything associated with the 'Doctor Who' or 'Torchwood' universes. I make no profit from playing this character, as this is a game and just for fun. Nothing to see here, folks. Move along. E-Mail: doctorandtardis@gmail.com Fandom: 'Doctor Who'/'Torchwood' Character: Captain Jack Harkness Point in Canon: I have decided that this Jack exists post-'Torchwood' Season One and after the last three episodes of 'Doctor Who' Season Three. That would place him somewhere during 'Torchwood' Season Two, which is still in the process of filming. Description: Briefly, Jack has the tall, dark, handsome hero image going for him. He even has the dimple in his chin. He has the build of a dancer combined with the strength of a quarter-back. His passport decription reads: dark brown hair, blue eyes, fair complexion. His wardrobe favours the attire of the 1940's: trousers, undershirt, shirt, suspenders, and sturdy boots. He is frequently seen in a long great coat of military issue made from grey wool. There is a wrist computer he always wears which has many functions beyond the technology of the 21st Century. He is frequently armed with a pistol and a killer smile. Important Personality Traits: Jack used to think of himself as a coward. Being a con man seemed a poor substitute for the likes of the Doctor and Rose, who risked their lives on a regular basis to make the universe a safer place for everyone. The Doctor, apparently, saw something more, someone worth saving, and accepted him as a companion aboard the TARDIS. He is actually brave if sometimes a bit cocky and arrogant. Although Death isn't a permanent state for him, it still hurts like Hell so he doesn't use it as a regular method of escaping a difficult situation. He uses his head, which is very capable, quick and clever with many technologies. He trusts his gut, which leads him into more complicated scenarios but keeps him focused. And he trusts his heart, which reaches out to people despite the pain that loving them can cause, especially since their lives pass like a Mayfly's when compared with his immortal youth. He is an odd combination of generous and unforgiving, playful and deadly, fixed and mercurial. Jack is a good friend to have at your back and the wrong person to try to con. Though a natural flirt and a bit of a playboy during his time with the TARDIS crew, many years have passed since then. Especially with his immortality issue, he is less likely to form any close relationships but is still flirtatious. When he seeks intimacy, it is rare and fleeting and, frequently, the person he spends time with has been given a drug called 'Retcon', which will erase all memory of the encounter. He is lonely yet craves connection with other beings. He was willing to - and did - die for the Doctor and Rose, and has sacrificed himself to save memebrs of his team and the world, and would do so again in a heartbeat. Canon Facts: (The Short Form) Jack was born in the 51st Century. He is a former employee of the Time Agency, an organization which patrols and monitors events in history to ensure that no criminal activity is occuring. Something happened that resulted in the Agency wiping two years of his memory - and he wants those two years back. To get his revenge, Jack became a con artist with a stolen vessel, which was capable of time travel, tricking other time agents into purchasing valuable items that would then vanish due to some natural historical disaster. He'd get their money to continue his existence and move on. He was searching for those missing two years and running a con in London, England, 1941, during the Blitz, when he met Rose Tyler - hanging from a barrage balloon - and the Doctor - in his Ninth Regeneration. They worked together to resolve a deadly issue which would end with the destruction of the Human race, and for which he was unintentionally responsible. The conclusion of that adventure had a bomb in stasis on Jack's ship and the stasis was failing. He'd saved the intended target - and thus, the Doctor, Rose and many other people - from certain death and condemned himself. Sipping what he thought would be his last hyper-vodka, he wasn't expecting the TARDIS to appear on his ship and rescue him seconds away from the explosion. Jack had many adventures with the Doctor and Rose until he was killed by a Dalek during a final stand on the Game Station in the year 200,000. Seconds later, he took a deep, gasping breath, confused and uncertain how he could possibly still be alive. He rushed toward the station's control deck, where the TARDIS was parked, arriving just in time to watch it dematerialize. He found his way off the station, using his wrist computer, and landed in 19th Century Earth, discovering fairly soon that he could be killed but it wasn't a permanent condition. He seemed to be immortal. He waited for the Doctor to reappear, hoping to see his friends again and have his 'condition' explained - and, ideally, 'fixed'. He situated himself with an organization named Torchwood 3, which monitored a Rift in Time and Space that ran through Cardiff, Wales. Various items - and sometimes aliens - would slip through and he and his team dealt with isolating the problems as best they could. He died again in a very dramatic way, when the Rift was opened and a demon named Abaddon was released. Anything living was instantly killed when his shadow fell upon it. He overwhelmed the demon with his bottomless life energy and Abaddon was destroyed. It took him three days and a kiss to recover from that one. Mere hours after he recovered, the TARDIS appeared. Jack grabbed his pack, which was ready for such an eventuality, and launched himself at the blue police box as it was dematerializing. He survived the journey through to the end of time on the exterior only because he can't die. He had several adventures with the Doctor - Tenth regeneration - and his new companion - Martha Jones - which included getting the last of Humanity to a safe haven called 'Utopia; dealing with the Master, another Time Lord, who stole the TARDIS, regenerated, and took over 21st Century Earth; and the 'Year from Hell', where he was tortured and killed repeatedly for the Master's amusement. Upon the Master's defeat and the rolling back of that horrific year - only those on the airship base, the Valiant, have any recollection of that year - he returned to his role as the leader of Torchwood 3, declining the Doctor's offer to travel with him again. He is at peace with the Doctor and his own state of immortality, which cannot be changed. He appears to be Human in all ways but when he suffers a mortal injury, he returns to life. The time between his death and rebirth seems to vary upon the severity of the injury. To a telepathic being, he seems to register as a null entity or 'dead'. He's still learning about the nature of his existance. 'Captain Jack Harkness' isn't his real name, but there is only one known person who has this information: his teammate, Toshiko Sato. He assumed that identity during a visit to World War II London. The real Jack Harkness, a pilot with the American forces, died on a mission. If the time-travelling Jack even knows his real name, he hasn't shared it with anyone. And, yes, that really is the 'short form'. | |||||||||
